HAWAII GENERAL EXCISE TAX (GET)

In Hawaii, all sales are subject to General Excise Tax or GET. This not a regular sales tax, but in operation most sellers of merchandise and purveyors of services tack this on to their prices, as if it is a sales tax.

Sellers of real property in Hawaii are also responsible for payment of GET, based upon the sale price of the property.

By law, GET is automatically deducted from the proceeds of a sale, in the escrow process.
